In our last blog post, you learned an easy way to change the order your accounts are displayed in Thunderbird. Today, we have a short video guide that takes your organizing one step further. You’ll learn how to manually sort all of the Thunderbird folders you have. That includes any newsgroup and RSS feed subscriptions too!

I would like some Search tips. Every time I use it to find an old email, I’m just frustrated. Results seem random, often not including the searched term or coming up empty when searching a term I copied from one of the emails…

Consider a video tip about compacting.
When selecting to compact a folder does it compact it’s subfolders?
Is there a way to compact the entire mailbox?

I’d like to propose the following tutorial content:
Some Thunderbird users do not have an option to scale there imap accounts to suffiient space.
Moving mails to offline storage (local folders) works, but only works locally. Mails cannot be read from another thunderbird instance.
Using the local folders addon (https://addons.thunderbird.net/de/thunderbird/addon/localfolder/) you can set up additional mail folders and put them on your cloud storage (nextcloud in my case). Be careful to use the maildir format when setting up folders. That way only single mail files need to be synchronised upon changes instead of the whole mailbox.
Exclude *.msf files in those local folders from being synchronised via your cloud storage solution (in Nextcloud ‘ignored files’).
You are now able to set up those ‘local folders’ in other thunderbird installations.
Yay!
